Viewing messages

Read received emails

Emails arrive in the inbox folder.

Details of emails in the inbox are displayed in the message list column. For further information see the page Managing the Message List.

Unread emails

An email is marked as unread until it is opened.
To make them easily identifiable, unread emails appear in bold, with the sender and date received in blue.
A bullet indicates the number of unread emails in the inbox, including any subfolders where applicable. For further information For more information on folders, see see the page Using the folder list.

The content of the selected email appears in the main display area.

View the email in a separate tab or window

Hold down the SHIFT key (new window) or the CTRL key (new tab) to display the dedicated button in the email shortcuts, and click on it:

They include :

    • Important message

When an email is marked as "important" or "priority" from the BlueMind mail system or from a thick client offering this option, an icon allows you to quickly identify it in the message list, and the words "Important message" appear in its header.

    • Trivial message

When an email rated as "not important" or "low priority" is sent from a thick client offering this option, the icon is grayed out and the header indicates that it is a "Trivial Message"

↳ To find out how to write down an important email from the BlueMind mail system, see Sending an important email

  • recipients in the "To" and "Cc" fields

ℹ️ When the number of recipients is large, only the first line is displayed, showing the number of additional recipients. Cliquer sur les chiffres permet d'afficher la liste complète des destinataires :

↳ It is possible to create an email from the content. For further information see Editing as new message.

Notifications

When desktop notifications are enabled in user preferences, a notification appears on the screen upon receiving a new message. Clicking a conversation opens the message thread in the main display area.

In the browser, if the BlueMind mail app tab is inactive—that is, if you are browsing another page—the number of new emails appears in the mail app tab's title.

Reading messages in a conversation

When conversation mode is activated, the conversation is displayed in the column of the email list, indicating the number of messages contained. Clicking a conversation opens the message thread in the main display area.

When a message belonging to a conversation is received, the conversation is shown in your Inbox with the date of the latest message. The conversation appears as unread until it is opened again. The new message is also visible in duplicated conversations in your personal folders. However, duplicate conversations in folders are not marked as unread, and the date does not change.

A conversation is rated as important if it contains at least one important message, and this applies to all folders in which it appears.

For more information on managing conversations and emails within a conversation, visit Moving, Flagging and Marking Conversations.

Reading a secure message

BlueMind enables secure exchanges thanks to encryption and digital signatures.

To receive a secure message, i.e. encrypted and/or signed, two conditions must be met:

When an encrypted message is received, the icon appears in the message list:

💡 If the email cannot be decrypted, a warning banner appears.
See Solving S/MIME problems > Encrypted message not displayed for more information.

When an electronically signed message is received, the icon appears next to the sender:

💡 If the signature cannot be validated, a warning banner appears.
See Solving S/MIME problems > Signature could not be validated for more information.

Protecting yourself against phishing

As well as being able to Managing Remote Content, BlueMind implements a range of mechanisms to combat fraudulent emails. These phishing attempts (know in French as hameçonnage) can take various forms, all designed to try to extract information – or even money – from the user:

  • identity theft, with the sender pretending to be an acquaintance, an institution, a company, etc.
  • link leading to a fake site, taking the appearance of a trusted site, and enticing the user to connect to it, thus stealing his login credentials for the counterfeit site.

When BlueMind detects a potentially fraudulent email, an alert banner is displayed above the email message:

Sender in doubt

When BlueMind detects a sender whose name matches an existing contact, but whose address does not match that of the contact, a red icon with an exclamation mark appears next to the suspect address:

Occasionally, a link may not redirect to the address displayed in the message text. A simple way to check that the link corresponds is to hover over the address in the bottom left-hand corner of the window before clicking on it:

If, despite everything, a click escapes the user's vigilance, BlueMind alerts him so that he can check the link and interrupt the redirection if the link is indeed suspicious, or continue if he is sure he can trust it:
